Additional Support Needs (ASN) Photography

Before I started my photography journey, I had the pleasure of working with children and young people with additional support needs in various capacities over several years. I understand the various challenges faced by these children and their families/carers and I feel that having professional pictures to put on the wall or even on facebook should not be one of those challenges.

Since I launched my photography career I have had great opportunities to take pictures of children with additional needs, and I have loved every minute of it. It astonishes me how often I have heard parents and carers talk about their negative experiences with other photographers as I can't imagine turning away anyone just because they don't fit the everyday mould. While the bulk of my experience is with children and young people, all of this information applies to adults of all ages, so please don't be discouraged.

I know from experience that families and carers of those with ASN feel real anxiety and apprehension when trying to explain to people the behaviours of those they care for. I understand that some of these people won't be able to sit still, some won't be able to follow instructions or be "posed" into position. They might even try to grab the camera or want to touch all the equipment in the bag. I want to emphasise that:

I don't mind if we have to stop regularly if they need a break or a drink or a snack. I don't mind showing them the camera and giving them a cuddle if they want one. I am happy to have my personal space invaded if they like to be close and I am happy to use a longer lens if they like to be far away. I am adaptable.

When you contact me to schedule a photoshoot, I will discuss with you in detail what you need from me to help things run as smoothly as possible. If you need me to come and do a few visits without the camera just so the person you are caring for can get used to me then that's fine. Or if you want to break up the shoot into a few days of only 10 minute sittings then that's okay too. Usually we will go to a location of your choice and I will walk around the person doing something they enjoy and try to get some lovely candid shots. I think it's so important to capture people how they are in the moment, rather than trying to create something staged.

I know that every person with additional needs is an individual and so every package I deliver is tailored to fit that person's needs. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or just fancy a chat. Look forward to hearing from you,

Sherrie

It's Okay

Our shoot with Sherrie was brilliant! My son has additional support needs and other photographers have found issues with this, not Sherrie, she wasn't even fazed and my son took to her so well. The finished photos are amazing. So natural! Sherrie is a true gem and I won't hesitate to recommend her to friends and family ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We've just received our pictures & I absolutely adore them all!! One of my daughters has additional needs & does not sit still however this wasn't a problem for Sherrie who was brilliant with her, both girls had a great time - the photos are amazing & so natural. I would highly recommend Sherrie. Thanks so much ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
